About Our Business/Organization Tallahassee LEGO Robotics Club is a 501(c)(3) organization.
We provide FIRST LEGO League teams for students ages 9-15 or grades 4-8.
In our FIRST community teams design and build a robot that they program to autonomously interact with LEGO structures built on a 4x8 foot field. They also complete a research project according to the theme of the season. At competitions the teams are judged on Core Values, Project, Robot Design, and Robot Performance (the robot game). Additionally, they become even more excited about Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.
Our season runs from August through April/May depending on tournament results. Our teams are formed in the end of summer and begin meeting once per week in August. Our community is made up of competitive teams that, although fun, function at a high intensity and commitment level. The best way to think about these robotics teams is like sports teams. Each member is an essential part of the team and needs to be able to attend the meetings and the tournaments because they are relying on one another to play a part. As such, we cannot take new members during the middle or end of the season. Our participation fee is $175 per student.
Our FIRST Tech Challenge teams take students in grades 7-12. Teams do build a robot, additional activities and tasks utilizing skills including co-operation, effective communication, programming, organization, creative analysis and problem-solving, team branding, budgeting, and fund-raising are prominent and dictate that a successful FTC team incorporate members with a range of skills and strengths.
Our season runs from September through February depending on tournament results. Our teams are formed in the end of summer and begin meeting once per week in September.
